St Michael's Mount is a tidal island located in Cornwall, England, off the southwestern tip of the Cornish peninsula. It is connected to the mainland via a causeway, exposed only twice a day at low tide. The mount is home to an ancient castle, which is now a popular tourist attraction.

The mount is likely the source of the legend of the giant, Cormoran, who terrorised the area in the Middle Ages. According to the legend, Cormoran was slain by a young man named Jack, believed to be the same Jack from the famous British folktale, Jack and the Beanstalk. The mount was named in honour of the archangel St Michael, and has been a popular pilgrimage site for centuries.

The first recorded mention of St Michael's Mount is in the Domesday Book of 1086. In 1135, the mount became the property of the Benedictine monks of Mont-St.-Michel in Normandy. In 1235, the mount was granted to the Priory of St Michael at Mont-St.-Michel.

The mount has been owned by a number of prominent families throughout its history, including the St Aubyns, who purchased the mount in 1659. During their ownership, the St Aubyns built a castle on the mount, which was completed in 1779. The castle is now open to the public and includes a chapel, museum and gardens.

In 1954, St Michael's Mount was taken over by the National Trust and is now designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest. It is also a popular tourist destination, with over half a million visitors annually.

The mount is home to a number of interesting wildlife species, including the rare Cornish chough. The surrounding waters of the bay are also home to a variety of marine life, including dolphins, seals, and a large population of seabirds.
